Bitcoin ATM scam

Alise was working from her at-home office one morning when a ding from her phone interrupted her. She checked the text message, which looked like it came from PayPal. The PayPal rep told her that her bank account contained excess funds Alise must return to PayPal. Alise was concerned since she sells custom cat toys on Etsy and accepts payment through PayPal. The PayPal rep showed her a screenshot of her account balance, and it was incorrect. She told Alise to go to a Bitcoin ATM a few miles from her home and deposit the extra money using the QR code at the machine.

Alise tried to log in to Lake City Bank Digital, but her username and password weren’t accepted. She immediately called the One Call Center. The agent looked at Alise’s account and saw that the username and password had been changed, and money had been transferred from her savings account to her checking. Alise’s account had been hacked and taken over by fraudsters. The bank froze Alise’s account and worked with her to change her credentials. Alise also changed her PayPal password just in case.

Alise’s quick call to the One Call Center paid off and she avoided losing money to fraudsters. Remember, something that sounds fishy usually is fishy.

When in doubt, call the One Call Center at (888) 522-2265.
