Branching Out
With the introduction of computers in the 1960s, banks began to automate their processes. One person could quickly accomplish. tasks that used to take several people hours or days, And the more information computers housed, the more detailed the reports were that they produced. Faster, cheaper processing combined with better information and easier communication set the stage for expansion.
In 1965, Lake City Bank established its first branch office. Built at the entrance to Winona Lake at a cost of $75,000, it opened on December 4. For the first time in 93 years, Lake City Bank occupied more than one location.
Another quickly followed. On May 1, 1966, the bank merged with Commercial State Bank in Silver Lake in an eleven-to-one stock swap. With that, Lake City Bank had three locations.
Many more followed over the years, and by its 150th anniversary in 2022, Lake City Bank proudly served customers from more than 50 locations.
